It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of retired Fire Chief William McCredie of the Rock Community Fire protection District.
Bill passed away on Sunday night, May 19th, with his family by his side. Bill was born on November 11, 1931 and lived in East St. Louis, Illinois. After High School, Bill joined the United States Navy and served his country in the Korean War. After the Navy, Bill worked for Union Electric married the love of his life, Joann.
Bill joined Rock Community in 1963 as a volunteer and was hired full time in 1977 as Deputy Chief Training Officer. He served as training officer until 1992 when he was promoted to Assistant Chief. Just prior to his retirement in 1997, he was named Fire Chief.
Bill served on the Rock Community Volunteer Association board, Jeffco Training Committee, was an adjunct instructor for the University of Missouri Fire and Rescue Training Institute, and was the area coordinator for the Missouri State Mutual Aid Organization.
In 2009, he joined several other retired firefighters to form the Rock Community History Committee.
Bill will be greatly missed but not forgotten.
Funeral Services are as follows:
Visitation on Thursday the 23rd from 4 pm to 8 pm.
Funeral service will be Friday at Ziegenhein at 9:00 am and burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at 10:30 am.
