Baby Sitter Safety

Our District offers "Baby Sitter Safety" the third Saturday of every month from 10:00 a.m. until noon to those youth 12 and over. This class teaches basic rules while babysitting. Important information such as a choking child, stranger danger and fire safety are just a few items covered in the class. The class also teaches the student how to market themselves as a mature and responsible sitter. A certificate of completion is given for each student attending the two hour class.

Firefighter Career Shadow Program

This program allows youth and adults considering a career in emergency services to participate.

The program is a two day program. The first day, the student is introduced to the career of a firefighter and the education path he or she must take. The student is given a presentation and vital "take home" information on the "how’s" and " where" of obtaining the proper training to become a firefighter. A tour of equipment and "on duty" crew is also given.

The second day involves an 8-hour close observation of a Rock Community engine company as they begin their day. The student will observe the morning check out and routine of a firefighter. The student will also be allowed to shadow firefighters on emergency calls and observe this profession first hand.

To join, you must have a desire for a career in the emergency services and be at least 16 years of age. You can call our office at any time for more information.

Friendly Firefighter Program

This is one of our newest and most "user friendly" program for your school or civic organization.

With this program, a firefighter or fire officer will present an age appropriate fire or life safety message while reading a favorite story to your class or daycare.

The presentation is given in a colorful, enthusiastic and informative manner. Children are also asked to participate and ask questions.

The program generally lasts around 30 minutes per class and age appropriate safety literature is also distributed for children to take home.

Firefighters may even stay and serve lunch or attend a recess period to bond with the children.

This program, also called "Adopt a Firefighter", was originally the idea of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Call our office for an appointment.

Fire Extinguisher Training

This program teaches the proper use and handling of a fire extinguisher. The class can be given to industrial, restaurant or civic organizations.

The class includes a 30 minute extinguisher and fire safety presentation. After the presentation, the students are given a live but controlled "fire" scenario with a propane burn pan. The students will then take what he or she learned in the presentation and then extinguishes the fire.

The class is given by appointment only and must have at least 8 participants.

Severe Weather Alert Training

Our District is proud to serve you with our state of the art "SWAT" or Severe Weather Alert trailer.

Your school or civic organization can make an appointment with our office for our trailer to come to your facility.

The 45 minute presentation includes an informative video on the formation and dangers of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes.

As the video is playing, digital "lightning" and "surround sound" thunder begins to erupt. The audience is then alerted what to do if these type of storms would hit their school or home.

Call our office during regular business hours for an appointment.

Exit Drills In the Home (EDITH) Trailer and Sparky’s Hazard House

We are happy to serve your school, daycare or civic organization with our state of the art EDITH trailer and smaller electronic "Hazard House".

Our EDITH or home escape trailer teaches children from first grade to adult how to plan for a fire and to have at least two ways of escape.

Live props such as a "flaming" pot, and a misplaced handle from a pot on the stove, teaches proper kitchen safety.

A fire presentation by one of our firefighters is followed by "smoke" that begins to bank down. Participants are then asked to "stay low and go" in order to escape. There is even a "warm" door for children to feel as they safely escape the trailer.

A safe meeting spot is then set up outside the trailer where children and adults alike are taught the proper use of calling 911.

The tabletop Sparky’s "Hazard House" resembles a doll house and teaches smaller children the same fire safety messages but age appropriate.

The small house has "smoke" that rises and several hazards that children must identify as they inspect the house.

The children plan their own escape plan and must have two ways to exit along with a safe meeting spot.

This "Hazard House" will keep children of all ages entertained as well as give an informative fire and life safety lesson.

The EDITH trailer and Sparky’s "Hazard House" can be reserved by appointment.

Firehouse Tours

An informative tour of any of our Rock Community fire stations can be made by calling our Administrative offices Monday-Friday 8:00a.m.-4:30p.m.

Please specify the time, date and number of children with adult supervision that will be attending.

The tours are about an hour in length and present the "Day in the life" of a firefighter.

Several fire and life safety messages are given and children will be able to try on firefighter’s gear.

We are proud to serve you our citizens and will always safely do "Whatever it Takes" to be there for YOU!!!
