Throughout the years, the district has prioritized top-tier emergency services and training to meet your expectations. Firefighting, while essential, poses significant risks to our firefighters’ well-being. Prop R will provide the necessary funding to stabilize the current pension plan. This plan funds the retirements of members who have met their years of service and age requirements and offers vital financial aid for those forced into early retirement due to job-related injuries or illnesses.
The district makes a steadfast commitment to bring on board a dedicated team of professional firefighters and offers them a competitive benefit package that ensures retiring with dignity.
Despite the inherent risks associated with this noble profession, including heightened vulnerability to heart attacks, cancer, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), our unwavering dedication allows Rock Community to attract and retain a team of exceptionally skilled, deeply motivated, and seasoned firefighters.
Since the inception of the Districts pension plan in 1977, with just 8 dedicated employees and 2 fire houses, our district has evolved into a thriving force for safety and security. By 2002, in response to our growing community’s needs, and having already added over 40 skilled employees and opened 2 more fire houses, the district sought voter support to increase the funding of the pension plan. Today, our team stands tall with 83 committed members, ensuring round-the-clock protection with 5 fire houses staffed 24/7 by experienced full-time firefighters. Our journey embodies a legacy of growth, resilience, and unwavering dedication to serving our community’s safety needs and answering your call.
Prop R represents an opportunity to honor the dedicated service of your Rock Community firefighters and employees by ensuring their retirement commitments are met. This measure seeks to adequately fund the district’s pension plan through a 15-cent increase in the pension fund tax rate.
For the owner of a $200,000 home, this would cost $1.10 per week. By providing these resources, we can uphold our commitment to those who have served our community.
We really appreciate you carefully considering the impact of Proposition R and to make an informed decision. Thank you!
